Use Power BI to analyze feedback and combine it with your institution’s data. The source guide uses the Power BI Web connector to read your Organization’s export URL.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the target Organization’s export settings in StudentPulse.
  • Power BI Desktop.
  • Access to the Microsoft Fabric workspace where you will publish the report.
Menu names follow the November 2025 source guide. Your StudentPulse or Microsoft interface can differ.

Enable the export

  1. Select the target Organization in StudentPulse.
  2. Open Settings, then Feedback Visualization.
  3. Find Other and enable External data export.
  4. Copy the export URL from the field that appears.
Treat this URL as confidential. The first feed is prepared after the next nightly export run.

Load the feed in Power BI Desktop

  1. Open Power BI Desktop.
  2. Select Home → Get Data → Other → Web.
  3. Paste the export URL.
  4. Configure the data source credentials. The source guide specifies Anonymous for the supplied export URL.
  5. Select Connect.
  6. Review the table preview.
  7. Select Transform Data if you need to change the data before loading it.
  8. Select Load.
The Anonymous credential setting applies to the connector. It does not mean you should share the export URL publicly.

Publish your report

  1. In Power BI Desktop, select Home → Publish.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account when prompted.
  3. Publish to the intended workspace.

Schedule the refresh in Fabric

  1. Open Microsoft Fabric.
  2. Open the workspace where you published the report.
  3. Select the Semantic model associated with the report.
  4. Select Refresh → Schedule Refresh.
  5. Set the refresh frequency and time.
The source guide specifies a StudentPulse export update at 02:00 UTC. Schedule the Power BI refresh after 03:00 UTC, and confirm the current export schedule with StudentPulse.

Check the result

  • Confirm that the report uses the intended Organization’s feed.
  • Confirm that the first nightly export has finished.
  • Use Reply Question ID as the answer key.
  • Count distinct Reply ID values when you need the number of Replies.
  • Check your joins against the data model.
If you see old data, check both the StudentPulse export timing and the Fabric refresh history.
